What is it
Apache is a web server, or a httpd. It's actually the most popular one on the internet today, most of the web runs on it. If you want to know more about it then please visit the apache web site.

Apache 1.3.4 has a lot of new features in it. View these to decide if you want to upgrade. Specifically a lot of denial-of-service attacks have been addressed.

Note: The apache packages have been compiled and installed as per the default configuration. Special configuration needs will required you to compile your own server. Also, because it is living in the /usr/local/apache directory, anyone installing these packages should back up their configuration files first. Otherwise you will have your files overwritten.
