This RPM file will build and install the IBM mapping layer software for the OSA IPMI device drivers on Linux. 1.2 Limitations Non-OSA IPMI drivers will interfere with the operation of this mapping layer software. 1.3 Enhancements - none 1.4. Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the update: - none 1.5 Dependencies: Please consult IBM's support website (below) for the latest OSA IPMI driver for your xSeries server or blade and for the list of operating systems that are currently supported with this software. OSA's IPMI driver must be installed prior to installing the IBM Mapping Layer, or the Mapping Layer will fail to install. On x86_64 kernels this RPM will build a 64-bit shared object, and a 32-bit compatibility shared object. Before installing the RPM on an x86_64 kernel, make sure the 32-bit compatiblity development packages are installed. 2.0 Installation and setup instructions ______________________________________ 2.1 Installing this rpm _________________________ Read the Dependencies section (above) before installing this RPM. If this is an upgrade to an existing Mapping Layer package, the previously installed Mapping Layer must first be removed. See section 2.2 below. Do not try to upgrade this Mapping Layer rpm with the upgrade (-U) switch. To install the RPM execute the following commands: rpmbuild --rebuild ibmsp6a-1.xx-2.src.rpm cd /usr/src/[PACKAGE DIR]/RPMS/[ARCH] rpm -ivh ibmsp6a-x.xx-y.[ARCH].rpm where xx is the version of the rpm that you are installing, [PACKAGE DIR] is the distribution-specific name of the RPM build directory (usually "redhat" or "packages"), and [ARCH] is the architecture of the kernel in use ( i386, i586 or x86_64). For example, to install the rpm on an x86_64 SuSE OS, issue the following commands: rpmbuild --rebuild ibmsp6a-1.xx-2.src.rpm cd /usr/src/packages/RPMS/x86_64 rpm -ivh ibmsp6a-1.xx-2.x86_64.rpm 2.2 Un-installing this rpm _____________________________________ Depending upon your system's configuration, you may see messages about missing files when running the "rpm -e" commands. You may safely ignore those messages. Type the following command at a shell prompt to remove the old software source and binaries: rpm -e ibmsp6a 3.0 WEB Sites and Support Phone Number _________________________________________ 3.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/support/.
