       1.0   Overview

              1.1  This README file contains the latest information about recovering
                   the IBM POST/BIOS code in the event of an update failure.

        3.0   Installation and Setup Instructions

              The procedure to recover the POST/BIOS is as follows:

              3.1  Remove AC power from the system.

              3.2  Remove the top cover from the system.

              3.3  Move the Boot Block jumper (JCON1) from its original location
                   covering pins 1 and 2 to the recovery position covering
                   pins 2 and 3.  
                   
                   Note: The Boot Block jumper is located near the front of the 
                   chassis, adjcent the FDD connector.

                   Boot Block (JCON1) jumper position for normal operation; jumper 
                   covers pins 1 and 2.

              3.4  Insert the "IBM Z20 System BIOS Recovery 
                   Diskette" into the fixed floppy diskette drive A.


              3.5  Replace the top cover and reapply AC power to the system.

              3.6  The system will boot into a special recovery mode.  

                   Note: There may be several minutes where the system will beep, as
                   the recovery process proceeds.  When the recovery is complete
                   the system will shut down.

              3.7  After the shut down, remove AC power from the system.

              3.8  Remove the top cover from the system.

              3.9  Move the Boot Block jumper (JCON1) back its original location
                   for normal operation covering pins 1 and 2.

              3.10 Replace the top cover and remove the "IBM x226 System 
                   BIOS Recovery Diskette" from the fixed floppy diskette
                   drive A.
