File Name: README_DRV.TXT Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000 Adapter Device Driver Installation Instructions for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Readme_drv.txt Version 1.0 CONTENTS ---------------- 1.0 Overview 2.0 Change History 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions 4.0 Configuration Information 5.0 Unattended Mode 6.0 Web Sites and Support Phone Numbers 7.0 Trademarks and Notices 8.0 Disclaimer 1.0 Overview ------------------ 1.1 This README file contains instructions for installing performance-enhanced device drivers for the Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000 Adapter. 1.2 Limitations: The device drivers are supported only on Microsoft Windows Server 2003. Driver usage is intended only for environments characterized by high CPU utilization (greater than 95% utilization) and high disk I/O rates such as those typical of transactional database applications. If your environment does not meet the CPU and disk I/O criteria, use of these device drivers is not recommended. 1.3 Enhancements: The device drivers have performance enhancements to improve CPU efficiency for disk I/O operations. Users may see slight performance increases with these drivers if the system environment is characterized by high CPU utilization (greater than 95% utilization) and high disk I/O rates such as those typical of transactional database applications. 1.4 Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the Update: This update is not necessary if the system environment is not characterized by high CPU utilization (greater 95% utilization) and high disk I/O rates such as those typical of transactional database applications. 1.5 Dependencies: Update the firmware on the Mylex adapters to version 7.00-01 before updating the device drivers. 2.0 Change History -------------------------- None. 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions ---------------------------------------------------- 3.1 Power off the server and unplug the AC power cords. 3.2 Install all Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000 Adapters. It is recommended that the adapters not be physically moved to other PCI slots after the drivers are installed. If you need to move an adapter, you should uninstall its device driver before moving the adapter. 3.3 Do not connect any SCSI cables to the Mylex adapters. 3.4 Plug in the AC power cords and power up the server. 3.5 Windows Server 2003 will detect the Mylex adapters and install a default driver for each adapter. 3.6 In the SCSI and RAID Controllers section of Device Manager, select the first instance of the Mylex adapters listed. Repeat the following steps for all instances of the Mylex adapters: a) Right click on the controller listing in Device Manager. b) Select "Update Driver..." c) Choose "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and press Next. d) Choose "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install" and press Next. e) Select "Have Disk..." f) Browse to the location of this driver and press OK. g) Select "Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000 Disk Array Controller (Accelerated)" from the list and press Next. h) The driver will now install for the selected adapter. In Device Manager, the name of the adapter will change to "Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000 Disk Array Controller (Accelerated)." i) Repeat this procedure from step a) for each Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000 Adapter in the system. Note that the adapters that have not yet had the driver installed are still listed as the "Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000 Controller" in Device Manager. 3.7 Reboot the system. 3.8 Go to Device Manager and check that the driver level of each Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000 Adapter is 7.5.1.0 dated 12/13/2002. Verify that each adapter has two driver files,dac2w2k.sys and macxp32.sys, both version 7.05-01. 3.9 To use Performance Monitor to monitor the disk performance statistics of disks connected to the Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000 controllers, you will need to merge the DiskStats.REG file into the registry. The merge can be accomplished by double clicking on DiskStats.REG. 3.10 Shutdown the system and attach the SCSI cables and disk drives to the Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000 adapters. 4.0 Configuration Information ----------------------------------------- None. 5.0 Unattended Mode ------------------------------ Not Applicable. 6.0 Web Sites and Support Phone Numbers ------------------------------------------------------ 6.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.pc.ibm.com/support 6.2 IBM Marketing eServer Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/eserver/xseries 6.3 If you have any questions about this update, or problems applying the update, go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: 800-IBM-SERV (800-426-7378) 6.4 Web site for the World Wide Support Phone list: http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/YAST-3P2QYL.html. 6.5 IntelliStation Web site: http://www.pc.ibm.com/intellistation 7.0 Trademarks and Notices ------------------------------------- 7.1 The following terms are trademarks or registed trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM, eServer and xSeries. 7.2 Microsoft and Windows are registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries. 7.3 Other company, product, and service names may be trademarks or service marks of others. 8.0 Disclaimer -------------------- 8.1 THIS DOCUMENT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
