IDEASCAN 2000 Driver Readme and Install Notes Ver 1.4 Oct 25, 1999 I. Downloading Driver There are six (6) driver file options for the IdeaScan 2000 based on the install language you wish to use. The files are: ID2000BP.EXE Brazilian Portuguese ID2000EN.EXE English ID2000FR.EXE French ID2000GE.EXE German ID2000IT.EXE Italian ID2000SP.EXE Spanish. The files are self-extracting executables that will create the installation file, IBM2000.EXE. Please note, regardless of which version you download, the installation file name is the same so you will want to make sure you choose the correct file. To download the driver, please do the following steps: Download directly to the system with the IdeaScan 2000. Go to the IBM web support site (www.pc.ibm.com/support) and go to the files section for the IdeaScan 2000 Scanner. 1. Create a temporary directory on the system. Choose any directory name you desire. (Example c:\id2000) 2. Double-click on the file for the language you will need (see list above). 3. When prompted, enter the directory created in step 1 for the download location of the file. 4. Go to the directory created in step 1, enter the execute the file. C:\id2000\id2000en.exe (where c:\id2000 is the directory created in step 1) 5. The file is a self-extracting executable and will ask you where you want the files to be downloaded to. The default is C:\. 6. After the files are extracted, go to the directory and run the setup.exe file. C:\IBM2000.EXE 7. After successful installation, the temporary directory and all contents created in step 1 can be removed. NOTE: This file contains the drivers and the Simple Access Button program for use with the scanner. For the Simple Access program to work, you must have the Paperport software loaded from the CD that shipped with your scanner. If Paperport is not installed on the system, you will receive the following two (2) errors after the drivers have installed: 1. Error Starting Program A required .DLL file, MAXKERNL.DLL, was not found 2. Error Could not execute the external program C:\PAPRPORT\FBDIRECT.EXE You can click ok for both of these messages to clear them. To use the scanner without Paperport, you will need to go into your software and select the IdeaScan 2000 as your input device. Please note that support for these applications is provided by the manufacturer of the application. II. Usage Hints BEFORE YOU CALL FOR HELP ========================================================================= Before you call the technical support group, please read this entire doc- ument for any installation, configuration, or compatibility information. Also, the FAQs provide a good basis for answering most common questions. ========================================================================= 1. Make sure that you do not connect the USB cable for the scanner until prompted during the driver installation. 2. There is a warm-up period for the scanner of 45secs when it is first used. This allows the scanner to perform at peak quality. If the scanner has more than 10 mins of inactivity, the warm up period will be required again. 3. Make sure before your first use that you have unlocked the scanner head as instructed on the wrap-around band on the scanner. 4. The simple access button program is loaded on boot and is minimized to an icon on your system taskbar. The buttons can be accessed by clicking on the icon in the systray. 5. When scanning, the page should be lined up with the paper icon in the lower left corner of the scanner. 6. Please check your manual and online help for further information on the usage of your scanner. 7. Don't spray liquid glass cleaner directly on the scanner glass. Excess liquid can seep into the edges and cause temporary image discoloration. Instead, wipe off the glass with a clean lint-free cloth lightly dampen with glass cleaner. 8. Error message caused by INLOADER.DLL. This error message has NO impact on the functionality of PaperPort 6.1 and may appear only at installation time. 9. AOL 3.0 is supported, but AOL 4.0 is not currently supported. Look for details on the IBM support website for upgrades and fixes which will support AOL 4.0. 10. If the IBM scanner installation CD does not autostart check for the entry "IBM Master CD" in the Add/Remove Programs folder.
