What This Package Does
-----------------------
This package provides the audio driver for Windows 98/Me/2000.
This package enables or updates the audio function of the following
ThinkPad computers:

   - ThinkPad i Series 1200(1161 - 43*, 73*, 93*, 94*, 96*)
   - ThinkPad i Series 1300(1171 - 4**, 6MU, 8MU, 9MU)
   - ThinkPad i Series 1300(1171 - 5CU, 5X*, 6XU, 7XG, 8XU, 9X*) *1 (Wireless Models)
      *1: Supports Windows Me/2000 only

Installation Instructions   
-------------------------
NOTES:
   1. Verify audio driver string is correct in Device Manager.  See
      the Determining which version is installed section for
      instructions.
   2. If DirectX 7 or DirectX 8 is installed in windows 98 SE, then
      choose reserve all when prompted with the choice to reserve or
      not reserve during the installation process.
   3. The suggested procedure for Windows 98SE is to install the audio
      driver  prior to installing DirectX 7 or 8.
   4. Windows 2000 may not restart automatically at the end of the
      installation procedure and the Volume control will appear in
      second reboot.


 1. Start Windows 98/Me/2000. For Windows 2000, log on with a user ID
    authorized as an administrator.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, then click Run.
 4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and
    click OK.
 5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
    NOTE: If the Found New hardware Wizard window appears, click Cancel
    to end the wizard.
 6. Restart the system for the driver to be effective.
    NOTE: If the Found New hardware Wizard window appears, click Cancel
    to end the wizard.

Determining which version is installed
--------------------------------------
Windows 2000
 1. Start Windows 2000.
 2. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
 3. Double click the System icon.
 4. Click the Hardware tab at the top of the System Properties window.
 5. Click the Device Manager button.
 6. Expand the Sound, video and game controller section.
 7. Select ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi).
 8. Right click ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi), and select
    Properties.
 9. Click the Driver tab. The version number will be displayed.

Windows 98/Me
 1. Start Windows 98/Me.
 2. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
 3. Double click the System icon.
 4. Click the Device Manager tab.
 5. Expand the Sound, video and game controller section
 6. Select ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi) and click Properties.
 7. Click the Driver tab.
 8. Click the Driver File details button.
 9. Highlight the file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\aliadwdm.sys
    The file has the version number embedded.
