What This Diskette Does ----------------------- This System Program Service Diskette updates the system BIOS program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. (New) New Function or Enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <1.00 - 1.03.15> - (New) Initial release for ThinkPad 240Z. <1.01 - 1.03.16> - (Fix) On Windows 98, the icon of Intel SpeedStep application in the task bar is not changed to AC mode indication when the AC adapter is connected during suspend mode and then the system resumes normal operation. - (Fix) On Windows Me/2000, Wake on Ring and Wake on LAN fail and the system hangs after shutdown by the Operating Systems. - (Fix) With "Will not suspend even if LCD is closed" option is enabled in the ThinkPad Configuration program, when the LCD panel is closed, the external display is removed, and then the LCD panel is opened again, the LCD has the blank screen. - (Fix) On the system with Wake on LAN enabled, if the following conditions are met, the warning message, "Previous boot incomplete.", does not appear. - The Wake on LAN option is disabled in the IBM BIOS Setup Utility - Then the AC adapter is once removed and inserted - Shut down the system and boot the system. - (Fix) (Japanese Windows Me preload only) While the Windows Me preload environment is recovered with the IBM external USB CD-ROM drive, the system is shut down, not rebooted, after pressing Alt+Ctrl+Del keys. <1.04 - 1.03.57> - (New) Add the option to hide "Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility" in the IBM BIOS Setup Utility during the system boot. Updating System Program ----------------------- Notes: - As written on LCCM Compatibility and Configuration Guide, remove the Power-on password prior to flashing the BIOS in LCCM (LANClient Control Manager) environment. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is write-protected. 1. Print these instructions or display them on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 6. Select Update system program and follow the instruction on the screen. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed and system has restarted, do the following to make the changes effective. 7. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then turn off the computer. 8. Turn on the computer with pressing F1 key. The system enters IBM BIOS Setup Utility automatically. 9. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 10. Press F9 key. 11. Select Yes to load default configuration. 12. Press F10 key. 13. Select Yes. 14. The system will restart automatically. BIOS Information ---------------- Each version of the System Program Service Diskette contains the following system program (BIOS). The BIOS Version and the Date can be viewed by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility. To enter the IBM BIOS Setup Utility; 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press F1 key. The IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check BIOS Version and BIOS Date.
