DVD-Video Player Upgrade for Windows Me

What This Package Does
-----------------------
The accompanying DVD-Video Player Upgrade package can update
the DVD-Video Player feature in the ThinkPad systems to function in
Windows Me.

The following models are supported:
  - ThinkPad 390, 390E, 390X           <DVD Model>
  - ThinkPad i Series 1720/1721/1781   <DVD Model>
  - ThinkPad i Series 1400             <DVD Model>
  - ThinkPad i Series 1500             <DVD Model>

Note:
This program is only for Windows Me. How to check if your system has
been installed with Windows Me or another Operating Systems such as 
Windows 98 or Windows 95 is:
 1. Start Windows.
 2. Click Start, then select Settings, then click Control Panel.
 3. Double-click the System icon.
 4. You can see the General information at System Properties.
    System:
       Microsoft Windows Me
       4.90.3000.
    or you can see the Windows Me logo screen when the system boots 
    up.
  
To determine if you should update the program, refer to the "Summary 
of Changes" section.

To update the program, refer to the "Installation Instructions" 
section.

Installation Instructions
-------------------------
Note:
 - Use this driver only for the ThinkPads with Mediamatics DVDExpress
   installed.
 - This package cannot be installed without the Mediamatics DVDExpress
   DVD-Video player installed in the system. This package is for 
   upgrade purpose only.

 1. Verify that the DVD-ROM drive is installed in your computer. If 
    the DVD drive is not installed, install it before continuing.
 2. Start Windows Me.
 3. Exit all Windows programs before running the DVDExpress Setup
    program.
 4. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 5. Click Start, then click Run.
 6. Type in C:\DRIVERS\WIN\DVD\SETUP.EXE in the Open field.
 7. Press Enter.
 8. The DVDExpress Player installation program will start.
    Click Next in the Welcome screen.
 9. The Software License Agreement window will open.  
    Note: Before continuing with the installation, make certain you 
    have read through and agree to all the terms of the license 
    agreement.
10. Click Yes to continue. 
11. To install DVDExpress in the default folder, click Next.
12. The Setup program will begin copying files to your system.
13. After all files are copied to your computer, click Finish to
    automatically restart your computer for the changes to take 
    effect.
14. When your computer restarts, the DVDExpress DVD player is 
    installed and ready to be used for Windows Me.

For the best results while playing back DVDs under Windows Me,
the transfer mode for the DVD-ROM drive should be to be set to DMA 
mode.  To enable DMA mode for your computer's DVD-ROM drive, 
following these instructions below:

 1. Verify that the DVD-ROM drive is installed on your ThinkPad 
    computer.
 2. Click Start, then select Settings, then click Control Panel.
 3. Double-click the System applet.  After the System Properties
    window opens, click the Hardware tab.
 4. Click Device Manager, expand the + next to IDE ATA/ATAPI
    controllers.
 5. Highlight the Secondary IDE Channel device and double-click it to
    open its Properties window.
 6. Click the Advanced Settings tab.
 7. Under Device 0, locate the Transfer Mode: list box; and then
    select the DMA if available.
 8. Click OK.
 9. Click Yes to allow the operating system to automatically restart
    your computer.
10. When Windows restarts your computer, your DVD-ROM drive will run 
    in DMA mode.

Determining which version is installed
--------------------------------------
 1. Run DVD Player.
 2. Click on DVD Options button which is at the bottom left corner of
    the DVD Player.
 3. DVD Options window appears then see Build version: for the DVD
    player version No.


Note
----
On DVD models of ThinkPad 390/390E, i Series 1720/1721 and i Series
model 2621, sufficient DVD playback performance may not be achieved
depending on the DVD titles you play.
This is a current known limitation due to the software DVD decoder
and CPU performance running on these models.
IBM is working to correct this CPU performance issue in the future
release.
