What This Package Does
-----------------------

The accompanying DVD-Video Player Upgrade package can update
the DVD-Video Player feature in the ThinkPad system to function
in Windows 2000.

The following models are supported:
      - ThinkPad 390, 390E, 390X <DVD Model Only>
      - ThinkPad i Series 1400 Model 2611 <DVD Model Only>
      - ThinkPad i Series 1500 Model 2611 <DVD Model Only>
      - ThinkPad i Series 1700 <DVD Model Only>

To determine whether you have to update the program,
refer to Summary of Changed and Fixed Items.

To update the program, refer to the Installation Guide.

Installation Guide
------------------
NOTE:
 - Use this driver only for the ThinkPads with Mediamatics
   DVDExpress installed.
 - This package cannot be installed without the Mediamatics
   DVDExpress DVD-Video player installed in the system.
   This package is for upgrade purpose only.


Installing DVDExpress on your ThinkPad for Windows 2000

 1. Verify that the DVD-ROM drive is installed in your
    ThinkPad system. If the DVD drive is not installed, install it
    before continuing.
 2. Start Windows 2000.
 3. Exit all Windows programs before running the DVDExpress
    Setup program.
 4. Extract the upgrade package onto the hard disk drive.
 5. Click Start, then click Run.
 6. In the Open field, type C:\DRIVERS\W2K\DVD\SETUP.EXE to
    install the DVD player. If you extracted the files to a
    different location, specify that location instead.
 7. Click the OK button to start the installation process.
 8. Click Next in the Welcome screen. The Software License
    Agreement window will open. NOTE: Before continuing with
    the installation, make certain you have read through and
    agree to all the terms of the license agreement.  If you
    agree, click Yes to continue.
 9. Click next to install DVDExpress in the default folder.
    The Setup program will begin copying files to your system.
10. After all files are copied to your computer, click Finish
    to automatically restart your computer for the changes to
    take effect. When your computer restarts, the DVDExpress
    DVD player is installed and ready to be used for Windows
    2000.


For the best results while playing back DVDs under Windows 2000,
the transfer mode for the DVD-ROM drive should be to be set to
DMA mode.  To enable DMA mode for your computer's DVD-ROM drive,
following these instructions below:

 1.  Verify that the DVD-ROM drive is installed in your ThinkPad
     system.
 2.  Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
 3.  Double-click the System applet.  The System Properties window
     will appear.
 4.  Click the Hardware tab.
 5.  Click Device Manager, then click the + next to IDE ATA/ATAPI
     controllers.
 6.  Highlight the Secondary IDE Channel device and double-
     click it to open its Properties window.
 7.  Click the Advanced Settings tab.
 8.  Under Device 0, locate the Transfer Mode: list box;
     and then select the DMA if available.
 9.  Click OK.
10.  Click Yes to allow the operating system to automatically
     restart your computer. When Windows restarts your computer,
     your DVD-ROM drive will run in DMA mode.


How to determine which version is installed:
 1. Run DVD Player.
 2. Click the DVD Options button which is at the bottom
    left corner of the DVD Player.
 3. DVD Options window appears then see Build version:
    for the DVD player version No.

Note
----
On DVD models of i Series model 2611, sufficient DVD playback
performance may not be achieved depending on the DVD titles you play.
This is a current known limitation due to the software DVD decoder
and CPU performance running on these models.
