What This Package Does ---------------------- This ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility updates the BIOS (system program including the Embedded Controller(EC) program) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. This release supports the following systems: - ThinkPad R60 The supported operating systems are as follows: - Windows 2000 - Windows XP (Home Edition and Professional) To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Summary of Changes section. To update the BIOS, refer to the Updating BIOS section. (Some keys seem to keystrokes, because the shift cases are not defined) - Multiple selection with cursor keys - Numeric keypad will turn to cursor keys <1.05> - (New) Support of external 1920x1200 resolution wide display. - (Fix) Docking system in the Dock/Mini Dock sometimes does not appear to be complete. - (Fix) When the Password reset service of BIOS Setup is enabled (BIOS Setup->Security->Password->Password reset service) and Passphrase is disabled (BIOS Setup->Security->Password->Using Passphrase), POP(Power On Password) or HDP(Hard Disk Password) may not be unlocked with a registered password by the Password reset service. - (Fix) Even if CD-ROM speed is set to "Silent mode" in BIOS Setup, the "Silent mode" may be changed to "Normal mode". - (Fix) The process to recognize the kind of adapter connecting the system just after the OS boot was improved. - (Fix) Display switching to external Display or Projector via Presentation Director is sometimes failed . - (Fix) HDD reset may not be issued to secondary HDD of Ultrabase when communication reset is required. <2.06> - (New) Support for ThinkPad R60 2006 autumn model - (New) Support for new chipset/processor by SMBIOS - (Fix) Wrong data may be written to hard drive, when EMM386.EXE of IBM PC-DOS is used. (BIOS) - (Fix) Windows desktop Icon location may be changed after Lid open/close. (BIOS) Note: Need to upgrade a display driver to version 6.14.10.4693 or later to fix this problem. Updating BIOS ------------- Notes: - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS. - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - If a USB Diskette Drive is attached to your computer, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Start Windows 2000/XP and logon with administrative privileges on the target computer. 4. Save this package onto the hard drive. 5. Click the Start button, then click Run. 6. Specify the file name with the full path name where you saved the package. (e.g. C:\Temp\79UJ02US.EXE) and then click OK. 7. Follow the instructions on the screen. 8. After a License Agreement, extract this package to an appropriate directory. (e.g. C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\79UJ02US) 9. Click the Start button, then click Run. 10. Specify a WINTPUP.EXE with the full path name where you extracted the package. (e.g. C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\1YUJ01US\WINYPUP.EXE) and then click OK. Note: For unattended update, specify the file name with options "-s". (e.g. C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\79UJ02US\WINUPTP.EXE -s) The BIOS is updated without any user interaction. 11. Follow the instructions on the screen. 12. Select 'Update ThinkPad BIOS' and follow the instructions on the screen. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, the program shows a message 'Flash Update has been successfully completed...' Press 'Yes' to restart the system. Do the following to make sure the BIOS is updated correctly. 13. Turn off the computer. 14. Turn on the computer. 15. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. 16. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 17. Verify the BIOS Version. 18. Turn off the computer. Initializing BIOS ----------------- BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS setup: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. 4. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enter the password. 5. Press the F9 key to load default configuration. 6. Select Yes. 7. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit. 8. Select Yes. After the initialization has been completed, the system restarts automatically. Note: After initialization you may need to re-apply some settings that you had changed previously. BIOS Information ---------------- Each version of the System Program Service Utility contains the following system program (BIOS) and the Embedded Controller program. The BIOS Version and the the Embedded Controller version number can be viewed by entering BIOS Setup Utility. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. 4. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 5. Check BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version. 6. Turn off the computer. This choice will disable PXE and WOL features. *2 This area becomes free by disabling the USB BIOS Support option under Config and USB in the BIOS Setup Utility. This choice does not affect using USB devices in Windows operating systems. Usable Area: The following memory address can be used by the memory manager such as EMM386.
