Find the SPAM!!! version 0.85 Welcome to the _Find_the_SPAM_ readme. This file is intended to aid you in locating the SPAM and setting up your computer so that others around the world may find the SPAM with you. Well, really all you have to do is make a directory in your quake directory called something like "spam" and then put the progs.dat file included in the zip into that directory. Then start your server as usual with the "-game [spam]" option, where [spam] is the name of the directory you put the progs.dat into. Once the server is started, type "deathmatch 19" at the console prompt and changelevel to whatever level you want to play. If you need more help setting up a server, then read the manual.txt that came with Quake. _Find_the_SPAM_ is basically the same as regular deathmatch, with a few modifications: *: First of course is the SPAM. It should be fairily obvious just what exactly the SPAM is, since it glows very brightly and flies around. The object of the game is to kill the SPAM, Shub-Niggurath's evil master. This can be done with any weapon; rockets are particularly effective, and if the SPAM is hit with nails it will slow down a bit. Should the SPAM come into contact with a player's skin, he/she/it will take damage based on the SPAM's speed. If no one can hit the SPAM, it will relocate after 60 seconds. Killing the SPAM yields 10 frags to the player who deals the final blow. *: Secondly, there are evil fake SPAMs. These also look like flying gibs, but they do not glow as brightly and are smaller. They have very little health and are basically just nuicences, since they also do damage when they hit. In future versions they will be much meaner. No frags are awarded for killing the fake SPAM. *: Also, you will probably notice that weapons do greatly reduced damage to players' health. In fact, missiles do NO damage at all to players and all other weapons do 1/4 damage. It IS possible to kill people, but pretty hard. After all, the purpose is to find the SPAM, not each other. In the future, this will probably be a server option, so that full damage caould be left on. If a player is killed by any means (SPAM, falling, other player, etc...) their frag count is reduced by one, but the killer gets no frags. *: The grenade launcher has been changed to the flamethrower on a whim. This code was written by Wedge at Quake Command (wedge@nuc.net) and is basically unchanged except that it now uses rockets for ammo and replaced the grenade launcher. It sets people and SPAM on fire, doing small amounts of damage every 1/10 of a second or so. Pretty cool. Well, that's about it, as far as I can tell. Remember to put "deathmatch 19" in, or else you'll have a really hard time finding the SPAM.
