Exam file name : D2M6JPH.ZIP Title conquered : DOOM 2 Master Author : Jason Patrick Henry Completion date : 1997 07 22 Game and version used : DOOM II v. 1.9 Authentication dance : FRF - FRR - RFF Log entry - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 19970722 0116 CHAL: D2M6 JPH 07 11 29 (00) 19970722 0116 : Jason Patrick Henry - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - System used : A crappy 486/66mhz, 20 megs RAM, lousy old Fahrenheit video card, ancient Soundblaster16. Pretty good Fujitsu keyboard. Controls used : keyboard only, default configuration, with strafe left/right redefined as Z and X respectively (not used in any of these recordings) Free interpretation : A feeble attempt at Map 32 Tyson. Comments: MAP07UV.LMP (time=2:36): A bit of a stretch calling this Easy, since it used to give me all sorts of problems. Still, the solution is pretty straightforward, just throw the switches, grab the weapons, and kill, kill, kill. Favorite part is when I rush for the megasphere and lose 175% health almost immediately. :-) MAP11UV3.LMP (time=7:04): This is one of my favorite levels, and I spent over 3 hours getting it just right. I had two other successful runs, in the first I did my dance in a dark room while invisible, which just didn't look right -- the second had an awesome beginning with all hell breaking loose and every monster fighting each other, but I screwed up so bad near the end I didn't want to embarrass myself. This run has a near-perfect start, with an imp distracting the archie momentarily and a chaingunner keeping one of the heads (cacos) busy; plus it is the ONLY TIME IN MY LIFE I managed the final ledge without falling off!! This route is fairly difficult, especially for a keyboarder -- I survive about 1 try in 10 this way. But it's just so much FUN! Finding a safe place to do the dance was tricky, since this level is total carnage nearly all the time...I do it on the ledge w/ the blue armor after killing all the spectres. There's a bit of delay at the end when I heard a monster growling, which turned out to be a lost soul trapped in the wall, other than that this is a pretty good time for me. MAP29UV.LMP (time=14:30): When I requested this exam, I had successfully completed every level from scratch, EXCEPT 29. So it was no surprise when I got this one as the Hard entry! Thankfully, Peo Sjoblom showed me a neat trick, how to keep the cybie in his pit so you can take him out relatively safely. It's not exactly like shooting fish in a barrel, but MUCH easier than letting him roam free on that tiny tiny ledge! Also the rest of the level is made easier since you can plasma just about everything. The hardest part was finding the teleporters in the lava (ack), or getting tagged by a revenant missile if you wait too long on the first ledge...other than that, thanks to the cybie trick, this level was a complete pushover. Thanks, Peo! (And I told you I'd punch out the archvile. :) FREE.LMP: I couldn't think of anything special for my free interpretation (except yet ANOTHER version of map20??) so I decided to do something completely silly: an attempt at map32, "Demonlord" style (fist only, no invulnerability). This lmp is about 20 minutes long and contains about as many deaths -- although a couple times, I got in 3 good, solid hits before a rocket took me down. If you watch the whole thing, you're a hero! Author info: 29 (almost 30) yrs old, living in Los Angeles, CA, USA. Today's earthquake forecast calls for sustained shaking of 3.0 to 4.0 with occasional jolts up to 5. Check out my homepage at http://www.wgn.net/~space to see what a completely obsessive nutcase I am. :) Thanks to: Frank Stajano for DHT, id software (duh), Peo for recording "safe" lmps for the harder DoomII levels, Yonatan Donner and all my other Doom-friends on the Net.
