MegaGuns (version 2) - a weapons/monster patch for Doom, Ultimate Doom, or Doom2 (v1.9) This is an updated version of MEGAGUNS.ZIP Original author: Matthew Toews Version 2 Update: Sparky of KISS Software kelm@eisa.net.au Mods made by Sparky of KISS Software: - the original version was for Doom v1.2 ONLY, and contained an obscure hex editor (hack.exe) to patch the doom.exe. This patching program is unique to Doom v1.2 and will not work with any other version. This version of MegaGuns tested okay with Doom, Ultimate Doom, and Doom2 (version 1.9). - the original MEGAGUNS also included a DeHackEd patch which was used after the hack.exe patch. I converted this old DeHackEd patch to Patch Format 6 for compatability with modern Doom Source Ports. - the original version also used the programs DMGRAPH and DMAUD to patch your main iwad (doom.wad) with the new sprite graphics and sounds. This version is in standard wad format and does not alter your original Doom files. - the original MEGAGUNS.ZIP contained a whopping 50 files! This version has only 3 files: megagun2.deh megagun2.wad megagun2.txt - adjusted some of the sprite offsets - especially the ammo/weapon sprites, and the "rocket in air" animation. - recreated the JetPack Marines and BFG Mines using DeHackEd v3.1. The original MegaGuns used hack.exe to perform these functions with Doom v1.2. I don't have such an old version of Doom, so I can't check that I've recreated these functions accurately using DeHackEd. For example, the flying Marines looked silly walking in mid-air, so I modified the frames so that they fly around with their legs together. Also, operating a mine like a BFG was a bit silly, so I made it do local area damage like a rocket instead of 'line of sight' damage like the BFG. You can still use MEGAGUN2 with 'Plain Vanilla' Doom or Doom2, but you will need to create a replacement .exe file using megagun2.deh and the program DeHackEd v3.1. You will also need to add the extra sprite graphics to megagun2.wad using a program such as DeuSF, NWT, DeuTex, WinTex, etc. For example: deusf -as megagun2.wad A better option is to use a Doom Source Port which supports DeHackEd patches and sprite graphics; such as: Boom, PRboom, MBF, SMMU, ZDoom, Legacy, PrjDoom, etc. The following command will work with all of these Source Ports: -deh megagun2.deh -file megagun2.wad OpenGL Source Ports such as glLegacy and ZDoomGL can also be used, but you'll need to refer to the port's manual for the more complex command lines required. The clips have 40 rounds. The boxes have 200 round. The maximum ammo is 500. SHOTGUN: Fully automatic. The 4-packs contain 30 shells. The boxes contain 150 shells. The maximum ammo is 500. CHAINGUN: Shoots twice as fast and 2 at a time. (I can chew through 500 round in ~27 sec). The clips have 40 rounds. The boxes have 200 round. The maximum ammo is 500. New graphics -> Magnetic Accelerator. ROCKET LAUNCHER: Shoots a tiny bit faster. 5 times more powerful (BFG league). 3/4s as fast. The rockets give 25 shots. The boxes have 125 shots. The maximum ammo is 500. New graphics -> Sonic Wave Launcher. New graphics -> Sonic Wave Ammo. PLASMA RIFLE: Shots go 5 times faster. 5 times more powerful. The cells contain 40 rounds. The energy packs contain 200 rounds. New graphics -> Shoulder cannon. New graphics -> Cobalt sphere ammo. BFG9000: Shots do not move (mines). There is no ammo (unlimited). OTHERS: The status bar now says sonic instead of rockets and ions instead of cells. The imps are changed to possesed marines. They have rocket packs so that they can fly and are armed with shoulder cannons. This is to ensure that your battles are not too easy and one should not underestimate their long-range accuracy. No they do not drop any ammo. (Try E3M1! What a Slaughter!) The barrels are lighter so that you can shoot them and they fly away fom you. This helps in aiming. You are also now heavier. Tis makes it easier to maneuver on ledges when being pelted with ammo.
