README.TXT for PM Camera/2 (IBM EWS)

PM Camera/2 is an IBM EWS (Employee-Written Software) product which allows you
to capture full or partial screenshots from the OS/2 desktop.  It is freeware;
see the file LICENSE.TXT for details.

The file PMCAM2.DOC contains installation and usage instructions. It does not
seem to have been updated for the most recent version of PMCamera/2; this
README contains some additional information.

PACKAGE CONTENTS

The PMCAM2.ZIP archive should contain the following files:

    LICENSE.TXT The program license agreement.
PBIN2PSE.EXC IBM mainframe (370/390) script for PSEG38PP processing.
    PMCAM2.ABS BBS description file.
    PMCAM2.DOC Program documentation.
    PMCAM200.DLL * PM Camera 2.08 hotkey DLL.
    PMCAM200.EXE * PM Camera 2.08 program executable.
PMCAM200.HLP * PM Camera 2.08 online help file.
PMCAMERA.DLL PM Camera 2.10 hotkey DLL.
PMCAMERA.EXE PM Camera 2.10 program executable.
PMCAMERA.HLP PM Camera 2.10 online help file.
    POSTPROC.CMD Sample post-processing script.
    README.TXT This file.

    * These files have been removed from PMCAM2.ZIP as posted to the
Hobbes OS/2 Archive. See below for an explanation.

The original PMCAM2.ZIP archive from the IBM EWS repository contained two
versions of PM Camera/2.
o Version 2.10 is the latest version, to which the terms in LICENSE.TXT
      seem to apply.
o Version 2.08 is a slightly earlier version, which (according the license
terms listed in its own helpfile) is for IBM internal use only, and not
      for customer redistribution.
Since both versions were distributed by IBM on its public EWS site, in a
single zip file apparently govered by the freeware terms in LICENSE.TXT,
the actual legal status of the earlier 2.08 version is unclear. To be safe,
the 2.08 files have been removed from the archive copy uploaded to Hobbes.

(The main advantage of 2.08 as opposed to the later version is that it does
not prompt you for colour depth on startup. See below, under 'usage notes'.)

The only other difference between the original IBM EWS package and this
archive is the addition of this README.TXT file.

USAGE NOTES

When running PM Camera version 2.10 on a system which uses any colour
resolution besides 1, 4, 8, or 24 bits per plane (e.g. 32bpp, which is
common on modern video drivers), by default a dialog will appear which
warns you that a non-standard depth is being used. You have the following
options:
o Force PM Camera to one of the above colour depths by selecting
one of the radio buttons and clicking 'OK'.
o Ignoring the warning and telling PM Camera to continue anyway
(with the current colour depth) by clicking 'Continue'.
o Exiting the program by clicking 'Cancel'.
There is an undocumented command-line parameter which lets you force
PM Camera's colour depth to 24 bits, thereby bypassing this dialog.
The parameter is '/24'.

When you start PM Camera, the output filename numbering reverts to 00.
Be careful of this if you have any existing output files you want to
keep, since PM Camera will overwrite previously existing files which
have the same name & number when it performs the capture.

VERSION DIFFERENCES

There appear to be two main differences between versions 2.08 and 2.10:
o Version 2.08 does not include the somewhat annoying warning
dialog regarding colour depth (see above under 'usage notes').
It simply uses the current colour depth without complaint.
o Version 2.08 does not allow you to select between 'letter' and
'A4' paper sizes for PostScript captures.
